Meh. I don't see anything special.

Here is the murders by shooting over the last several years. Here is the total number of people killed. The year is over a quarter over, so you'd expect somewhere between 2 and three thousand people to have been shot in the US so far this year, with 4 thousand murdered total. My stats end in 2005 and things are in a bit of a pickle these days, so call it 3.

Now, again according to the BoJ, about 0.15% of homicides involve 4 or more victims. Which, I think we can safely call a "mass killing." So 3000 shootings, 4000+ killings, and 15 of them part of "mass killings" per 10,000 - we would on average have seen about 5 or 6 this late in the year. The fact that they are getting a lot of attention is the weird part, not the mass killings themselves.

Defence contractor suspended over neo-Nazi link

Someone snags Blood & Honour's (neo-nazi retards) forum database's private messages. Wikileaks dutifully leaks it. Piece of scum gets fired because she got identified as a member due to the leak.

Wikileaks strikes again.

Frank, according to your numbers, we should've had one mass-shooting by now this year. About four to five people killed at once.

Last month fifty-seven people were killed in mass shootings. At .15%, that's like over two year's worth of 'mass killing' victims in one month.

Tho, one month does not a trend make, these things tend to stack up.

Hmm. Does that mean Obama has to appoint a boy-fucker to this position?

Obama doesn't have to have an ambassador to the fucking Vatican at all. In fact, after all the bullshit the Pope has been doing lately, it would probably be better if he didn't. Isolate that bullshit throwback non-nation.

I couldn't agree more. I tell you what pisses me off about the Vatican. When I was there, I spent a great deal of time exploring the publicly accessible areas and taking tours. You know what? The Pope has a nice house - a really nice house. The artwork on the walls in the side corridors could be sold for millions let alone the other massive assets of the "nation" and this was just the stuff that was in view of the general public.

Obama should inform the Holy See that when the Pope sells his trinkets to actually help the poor, we will send an ambassador to the Vatican.

[sarcasm]

Are you kidding? They paid for a lot of that artwork. It's not their fault that the value of the art has increased across the centuries.

Also, those are priceless art pieces of immense historical value. Do you seriously expect the Catholic church to give up its heritage?

Further, Vatican City is a UNESCO World heritage site because it "represents a masterpiece of human creative genius; exhibits an important interchange of human values, over a span of time or within a cultural area of the world, on developments in architecture or technology, monumental arts, town-planning or landscape design; is an outstanding example of a type of building, architectural or technological ensemble or landscape which illustrates (a) significant stage(s) in human history; directly or tangibly associated with events or living traditions, with ideas, or with beliefs, with artistic and literary works of outstanding universal significance" (UNESCO Link).

They can't give that up for poor people!

Hmm I had no idea such a definition existed. It seems a tad broad; I would wager that I could make a fair case for my home's indoor flush toilet and sanitary system. I wonder how I can make a UNESCO nomination?

I know the Everglades is a World Heritage site...
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

LL: I guess if he wanted to be seen as a wanker and a pussy by cancelling all his shows in the country after talking shit about the whole place. I mean I haven't heard any of his music in a while but the only song I did hear was he wrote about Angelina Jolie when they were married; which was complete and utter shit. I mean what's with these lame ass celebrity bands anyways? It's one thing if you decide to go the JLo route and just make talentless pop shit, but don't pretend to be a fucking real artist. Seriously name me one good actor come singer song, let alone album.

One other notes: just in from Vietnam

And for an even better more legit serious one, Briefcase Full of Blues by The Blues Brothers went Double Platinum and was number 1 on the billboard 200 apparently. That means shit to me personally but I like them.

I bought both Blues Brothers movies for my dad the other year. He was over the moon.

Speaking of which, John Goodman is pretty good, too.

Ok blues brothers I'll grant though I believe most if not all of their songs were written by someone else; plus it was more of a expanding on a skit rather than "now that I'm famous I'm gonna start a music career".
Spinal Tap is also good (well funny good rather than "dude this rocks" good) but that's really a soundtrack, even if they did release a second album.

Republicans' latest manufactured outrage
MSNBC wrote:Republicans on Wednesday said a Homeland Security Department intelligence assessment unfairly characterizes military veterans as right-wing extremists. House Republican leader John Boehner described the report as offensive and called on the agency to apologize to veterans.

The agency's intelligence assessment, sent to law enforcement officials last week, warns that right-wing extremists could use the bad state of the U.S. economy and the election of the country's first black president to recruit members.

The assessment also said that returning military veterans who have difficulties assimilating back into their home communities could be susceptible to extremist recruiters or might engage in lone acts of violence.

Just to be clear, this report was ordered before Obama took office.
